Co-Star the UK based supplier to the ICT industry have launched a QMA adaptor cable to connect 4G and 5G antennas to the latest mobile WiFi equipment.
The adaptor has an SMA female connector at one end which is designed to connect on to an SMA male connector which is standard on most 4G and 5G antennas and a QMA male on the other end which connects into the mobile RF port on WiFi eqipment.
The advantages of using a QMA connector against an SMA connector are that a QMA has a locking feature which means that it is more secure and is less likely to disconnect when installed to mobile equipment and wireless routers used in environments with heavy vibration and movement such as industrial equipment and vehicles.
The cable used on the adaptor is a double shielded low-loss RG58 designed for high performance on 4G and 5G applications.
The QMA Connector was developed as snap-on locking replacement for the standard SMA connectors. This connector has the same internal construction as an SMA connector and exhibits similar RF performance characteristics and mechanical durability. The main difference is that QMA connectors feature a 360º rotating snap-on locking interface that is quick to install, has low RF leakage and is tool-less.
QMA connectors are most commonly used in cellular base station hardware, SCADA radios, and a range of wireless test equipment. They are also suitable in military hardware such as radar and satellite systems, where durability, strength, and quick-disconnection features are desired.
The QMA connector series is developed by the Quick Lock Forum (QLF) Alliance in 2003. This alliance includes RF interconnect companies with certified inter-mateable QMA and QN connectors, which are quick disconnect versions of the SMA and Type N connectors. Both offer a more convenient installation with its patented snap-on interface in place of a threaded coupling. Only QLF Alliance members can guarantee product inter-mateability between manufacturers. The members are Huber+Suhner AG, Radiall SA, Rosenberger and Amphenol RF.

Co-Star the Harrogate based ICT company who specialise in connecting the latest 5G technologies are launching a range of 2.92mm K connectors for 5G applications up to 40GHz.
The 2.92mm (K) Connector’s interface is similar to that of SMA connectors, but utilizes an air dielectric and engineering-plastics support bead for higher frequency than PC3.5mm and SMA connectors. It is a precision connector designed to perform mode free to 40GHz. In response to the advent of the fifth generation of wireless communication protocols, the 2.92 mm (K) series of products are also suitable for millimeter wave applications.
This design increases the outer-conductor contact area at the interface for more reliable electrical performance and higher mechanical strength than PC3.5mm and SMA connectors.
The outer conductor measures 2.92mm with a strong outer body wall compared to dielectric loaded interfaces of comparable size.
2.92mm connectors are mechanically compatible with SMA and 3.5mm connectors, but the male center pin is shortened to allow outer conductor engagement before the center contacts mate, preventing damage to the female contact pins.

The 2018 Co-Star table football championship sponsored by Terry’s Chocolate Orange was wone by Tim Cosgrove in an intense and pulsating contest.
Tim topped the table on goal difference with Matt finishing runner up which meant the grand final was again contested by the two bitter rivals. Tim representing Leeds United and Matt Manchester United. The previous three finals were all won by Matt but Tim edged this years tournament by two games to one.
Tim commented; “It’s great to finally get my hands on the trophy after three previous defeats and even better to beat Matt who was representing Manchester United. I will think about him when i’m tucking in to my chocolate orange prize over Chrismas! Maybe this is a good omen for Leeds United too who currently top the Championship table and are looking to return to the Premier League and again compete with Manchester United for real”.

The final of the anual Co-Star table football tournament was once again contested by Matt Hancock representing Manchester United and Tim Cosgrove representing Leeds United one of footballs most fiercest rivalries.
Security was tight due to previous instances of crowd trouble that have marred previous games by the bitter rivals and the Police requested an early kick-off as a precaution.
The battle of the roses clash was fiercely contested over five very close legs in an electric atmosphere. The final game in the series was a cracker and the air was filled with nervous tension causing players from both teams to make mistakes. Hancock edged it by one goal to claim his third title.
