R.S.C. Anderlecht, a Belgian football team and the most successful Belgian club in European competitions, had a problem. The nature of modern competitive football requires a team to spend a great deal of time on the road and just like everyone today the Anderlecht players want to stay connected. On the road, it was difficult for their smartphones to stay connected while roaming up and down the country and to maintain a stable connection. As a result, long periods were spent out of contact with the outside world. It became a sore point as players felt that this was wasted time. Furthermore, time was then spent at their destination catching up on their messages and social media. Peplink Partner, M2Mcom offered Anderlecht a winning solution.

Equipped with a Pepwave MAX HD4, players now connect to their bus’s new super-fast network. They can connect to the Internet and check up on emails, messages and even watch films online. They can keep up to date with their social media and more importantly with their family and loved ones, and interact with their fans, leaving them free to concentrate on the game when they reach their destination. In short, their new 4G LTE network on the bus can do everything they do on their Wi-Fi at home.

M2Mcom provided and installed the technology that made this impressive upgrade possible. A Pepwave MAX HD4 multi-cellular router was installed, a router combining four built-in 4G LTE modules, which enables the use of up to four different cellular providers for bandwidth bonding, data coverage protection and eliminating blind spots. Players now look forward to relaxing in the bus as they put their travelling time to and from games to good use.

With gross tonnage measuring in at 403,342 GT and a lifting capacity of 48,000 tons, the Pioneering Spirit is by far world’s largest crane vessel. Its length measures 382 meters – same as the Empire State Building in height.

Equipped with such immense lifting power, it is set to take on the world’s most challenging lifting projects out in the seas. Recently the UK government approved the decommissioning of Shell’s 24,000 ton oil rig known as the Brent Delta. Located 115 miles off the coast in the North Sea, the environment is guaranteed to be harsh and the waves to be rough. Shell considered cutting the platform into small manageable blocks but with the Pioneering Spirit, it is now possible to carry out the operation with a single lift, keeping topside refurbishment costs economical.
Pioneering Spirit will considerably reduce the amount of offshore work associated with platform installation and decommissioning, shifting the work onshore where it is safer and more cost effective.”

peplink pioneering spirit maritime connectivity solutionA Peplink Balance 710 forms the core and prioritizes its WAN connections as follows: Point-to-point Wi-Fi, 2x LTE/3G via MAX HD2 IP67, VSAT, and finally tethered data from an Iridium satellite phone. To maximize WAN diversity, one MAX HD2 IP67 is placed on each side of the vessel and are kept at over 300 meters apart to maximize the signal reception. This setup is designed to maintain a continuous connection, and is also configured to prioritize the most affordable WAN connections.

When the vessel is at shore, it will be connected to point-to-point Wi-Fi. When this becomes unavailable, it will fail-over to cellular network connections provided by the MAX HD2 IP67s. Once it leaves shore coverage, cellular networks will take over until they are out of reach of the cellular towers. At which point, VSAT takes over, with the Iridium satellite phone as an additional failover option.

While the main reason for choosing Peplink is because of the ability to prioritize WAN connections and failover between them, there were other considerations at play. InControl 2 for example, offers up convenient cloud-based remote access and monitoring and powerful GPS tracking features. While not yet in use, the redundant SIM slot on the MAX HD2 is also another factor, offering the flexibility that Holland and team have been looking for. The fact that the MAX HD2 has an IP rating of 67 means that it is dust tight as well as being able to withstand submersion in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes – perfect for the harsh seas. Realm Pictures Create New Genre Of Interactive Video Game Using Peplink Connectivity

Realm Pictures is a film production company based in the UK that has created a new genre of live interactive video game events. Their first was the Live First Person Shooter which they filmed in their studio grounds using local fixed line connectivity. When they went to film the second level in a disused power station which had no fixed line connectivity available, they realized that they needed a different way to obtain reliable, high bandwidth, low latency Internet connectivity to make it work.

After searching for a solution that could use multiple 3G/4G LTE cellular connections they discovered Peplink SD-WAN technology, and contacted Grapevine Connect – a local Peplink Partner, to help.

Grapevine Connect has now worked on two productions with Realm Pictures – the latest being a series of real life interactive Hitman games for Io Interactive, where multiple 3G/4G LTE connections were bonded at the location and connected over SpeedFusion VPN via a FusionHub virtual appliance in the cloud to the Internet. This not only gave Realm Pictures a high bandwidth, reliable, low latency Internet connection, but also allowed for inbound connections from the Internet to on location set pieces (like a remote controlled machine gun) providing a full interactive experience for the end users.

Co-Star Maximise the Performance of a Peplink Wireless Router Installed on a Luxury Yacht

Wally 148 SaudadeCo-Star a global distributor to the mobile communications industry based in Harrogate UK have helped a luxury super yacht based in Palma Majorca to maximise the performance of a Peplink wireless router used to provide mission critical connectivity whilst at sea by supplying a Panorama MIMO 4G Antenna which has a rugged low profile design suitable for demanding and harsh environments and contains two wideband LTE/Cellular elements and covers frequencies from 698 to 2700MHz.peplink

The Yacht which is manufactured from carbon fiber was impairing the signal internally so Co-Star supplied a ground plane independent antenna mounted externally on the mast of the yacht together with 20 meters of ultra low loss coaxial cable terminated with SMA male connectors to connect the antenna directly to the Pepwave wireless router.

Tim Cosgrove of Co-Star commented: “We were approached by the Captain of the Yacht who needed an urgent solution to get the best possible performance from the Pepwave device. We supplied an external antenna because the yacht which is manufactured from carbon fiber and caused interference with the router by hampering the signal when used with the standard internal antennas. The antenna was installed on the ship’s mast so we needed long lengths of cable which is why we went for the ultra low loss coaxial cable designed specifically for cellular and WiFi applications offering unparalled attenuation to minimise any signal loss”
